From Tradition to Innovation: The Development of Pasillo in Colombian Piano Repertoire

This lecture-recital explores the evolution of Pasillo, one of Colombia’s most emblematic musical genres, through its original piano compositions. Tracing its transformation from the 19th century to contemporary interpretations, this presentation examines works by composers such as Fulgencio García, Adolfo Mejía and Carolina Calvache. Through live performance and analysis, I highlight stylistic developments, pianistic textures, and the genre’s dialogue with European and Latin American influences. This session offers insights into performance practice and interpretation, aiming to deepen the appreciation of Pasillo as a dynamic and evolving pianistic tradition.
